RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
The science syllabus, particularly at the elementary level, requires a
more streamlined and practical methodology. The current approach is
cumbersome and needs to be transformed to focus on reflection and
experimentation. Books should prioritize hands-on learning, with
experiments presented first, followed by reflective questions. This
approach will foster a deeper understanding and lead to a practical
transformation in education.
Outdated curricula that fail to align with industry needs pose another
significant challenge. When students graduate, they often lack the skills
and competencies required by the job market. NEP 2020 emphasizes
aligning the curriculum with real-world demands to enhance
employability. States should actively promote the growth of industries
that can absorb vocational graduates, creating a seamless alignment
between education and industry. This initiative will encourage parents
to support vocational courses and help students view them as valuable
career pathways.
The full potential of NEP 2020 can only be realized once it is fully
implemented. While some parts have been introduced, the major
portion of the policy is still pending execution. The policy’s success
hinges on innovative methods for curriculum and pedagogy, supported
by continuous intervention and training from DIET and SCERT.
Leadership in schools plays a pivotal role in this transformation. With
effective leadership, teachers will adapt, and students will naturally
benefit from these improvements.
The examination system has transitioned from rote memorization to
a holistic approach, emphasizing competency-based assessments over
recall. This shift equips students to tackle 21st-century challenges
while focusing on sustainable goals to address societal issues. NEP
2020 has significantly reduced the burden on students and transformed
education through its 5+3+3+4 framework, redefining learning and
evaluation. The new system includes six formative assessments, each
worth 5 marks, along with co-curricular activities like discipline, art
and craft, and attendance. Summative exams account for 50 marks,
making the total assessment 100 marks. This balanced approach
integrates academics with personal development.
Although traditional methods persist in some schools, innovations
such as labs and specimen-based learning are being introduced to
